About Zoom Phone
Zoom Phone is a VoIP system built into Zoom. UCLA routes calls made to campus phone numbers to individual users’ Zoom accounts. Previously, you may have had a phone line in your office registered with the building manager. Zoom Phone replaces that line and associates the number with your UCLA Zoom account.
Not all phone lines move to Zoom Phone. These remain on legacy systems for now:
- Emergency lines
- Shared lines
- Some automated alerting systems
Many aspects of this system differ from a traditional landline. Your phone number is no longer tied to a physical location, and you use the Zoom application instead of a desktop handset to make and receive calls.
In most cases, the phone on your desk will no longer work. You will use one of these devices instead:
- Personal computer
- Personal smartphone
- Zoom Phone handset (closest experience to a traditional desk phone)
