Wifi and Internet Access

Use Eduroam or EPSS-NET in the department. Office ethernet ports have to be turned on before they work.

Wireless internet

EPSS-NET is the preferred wireless network for EPSS department members. It uses a pre-shared key (PSK) — email help@epss.ucla.edu to obtain the passphrase.

Visiting scholars and researchers can use Eduroam throughout the Geology building and Slichter Hall. See the UCLA wireless overview for campus-wide details.

PhySciOpen is an open (unauthenticated) network for visitors and students. Do not use it for sensitive data, teaching, or meetings — EPSS IT recommends Eduroam or EPSS-NET instead.

Weak reception in your office or lab? Email the helpdesk so we can evaluate and improve coverage.

Wired (ethernet) internet

Most offices and labs in Geology and Slichter halls have Cat5e ethernet jacks that typically offer faster speeds than wireless. Ports usually must be activated on the EPSS network before use.

To activate network ports in your office or lab, email help@epss.ucla.edu or visit Geology 4687.

Off-campus access

Access EPSS resources from off campus with the EPSS department VPN (WireGuard). For general UCLA campus resources, use the Bruin OnLine VPN.
